Activity 11: Can your students introduce themselves or others properly? (Many cannot.) Ask two students to stand and introduce themselves (Help them if they stumble). Then add a third student and ask them to introduce that person to one of the others.
Possible pattern:
_____, this is ______. _______, this is ______. Or (more complex): _______, I would like you to meet ______. ______, this is my (friend, brother, teacher) ________.

Activity 12: “How many ways can you say it?” game. Write on the board: Nice to meet you. (As in an introduction). Then, the teacher asks the class (in small groups) how many different ways they could say this statement. (Examples: It’s a pleasure to meet you. / I’m pleased to meet you. / Pleased to make your acquaintance.)

Now, you can try this with many phrases such as:

Is that true? / Really? / No kidding?

Can you come tomorrow? / Could you come tomorrow? / Can you wait until tomorrow?
Can’t you wait until tomorrow?

No, I’m sorry I can’t. / No, I’m afraid I can’t. / Sorry, I’m not able to. /
I would like to, but I can’t. I have to _____ tomorrow.

Did you ever go to Italy? / Have you ever gone to Italy? / Ever been to Italy?

Can I use your phone? / May I use your phone? / Could I use your phone? / Would it be OK if I used your phone? / Would you mind if I used your phone? Would it be alright if I used your phone?

Activity 13: Telephone activity. Students sit back-to-back, calling a friend in pairs. Practice Do, Did, Will patterns with Wh- and How added.

More formal: Calling for an appointment.
Example:
May I help you?
Yes, I’d (I would) like to make an appointment with _________.
How would Friday at 10:00 am be?
That would be fine. Thank you.
See you on Friday.
See you then.

Activity 14: (pages 11-13 in Power Patterns) Can you think of different ways to talk about the past? List some key words or makers on the board.
Example:
Yesterday, last week (last month, last year), last Thursday, the day before yesterday, a week ago Thursday, etc.
Make questions and answers with a partner using these. (Option: write long answers on the board: Example: What did you do last weekend? I had dinner with friends.)

Activity 15: Same as the past (Activity 14), but for the future. What key words can you think of? Example: tomorrow, next week (next month, next year), next Sunday, the day after tomorrow, a week from Friday, this Thursday, this evening, tonight, etc.
